Why don't we hire (enter the name of an amateur here) to be the disc jockey for your event.
Of course he or she can be the disc jockey at the wedding, corporate event, school dance, or whatever function you are planning. It will save you a ton of money for sure, and he or she will hopefully do a good enough job... right?
Let's think about this a minute.
I could tell you a personal story at this point, but I have found that everyone already has their own story to tell about a bad party.
Great parties and great entertainment go hand in hand. When your entertainment is bad, it will have a negative effect on other items. Your guests tend not to remember the decor, food, or location.
What people remember the most is whether they had a good time or not. Everything in the room will have an extra sparkle when your guests are enjoying the entertainment and having an excellent time together. So the choice is yours. If average is fine, call your friend. Entertainment - people want professional entertainment.
Three things a professional DJ should have.
1. Knowledge - about his job, and your type of event.
2. Experience - we all learn through experience. Let the amateurs practice at someone else's event. You need experience.
3. Execution - If this event is important enough, go see the entertainer performing at a similar event. Simple really. The DJ is or isn't what you had in mind.
