Popcorn machine rental insider tips for great popcorn treats.

The popcorn machine rental page covers some tips to help you make theater quality popcorn for your next event. If you are like me you cannot enter a movie theater in Nova Scotia without grabbing some popcorn so it makes sense to have it at any event where you expect lots of people.

Popcorn

Popcorn portion pack

The first picture you see here is of a product called a portion pack or nack pack as it is called by some companies. This little gem comes prepackaged with the correct amount of popcorn seed, oil, and seasoning.

Just cut the top off the package, and pour it into the popcorn kettle to make theater quality popcorn. When you get your popcorn machine rental make sure to ask for portion packs and some bags or buckets for serving the popcorn.

How to tell when the popcorn is all popped?

Buckets

The way to tell that the popcorn is done is by listening to it. Initially the popcorn pops rapidly and then starts to slow down. When their is large breaks between kernels popping is when you should empty the cooking pot, and then refill it for the next batch.

I usually look for 3 to 4 seconds between any kernels popping as a guideline. If the popcorn smells like it is burning, empty the pot immediately. Give the pot a good shake to remove all the cooked kernels.

Caramel popcorn just like cracker jacks.

Here is a recipe for CARAMEL POPCORN (CRACKER JACKS) for all the great cooks out there.

4 quarts popped corn (measured after popping) 1 16 oz container peanuts (optional) 1 cup light brown sugar 1 stick butter 1/4 cup white corn syrup 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/3 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 250°F degrees. Measure 1 cup of light brown sugar into a medium saucepan (with high sides) and stir in 1 stick of butter, 1/4 cup of corn syrup and a pinch of salt.

Bring to a boil, stirring constantly (set timer for 2 minutes).

Remove saucepan from heat and quickly stir in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and vanilla (mixture will foam up). Stir mixture down.

Using a pot or bowl which is large enough to hold all of the popped popcorn, combine popcorn and hot mixture, stirring and tossing to mix thoroughly using a large spoon greased with butter. Add peanuts (optional). When pouring liquid over popcorn be careful because the mixture is HOT.

When thoroughly mixed, spread the coated popcorn on a greased baking sheet. Do not overload the baking sheet; bake in multiple batches if necessary.

Bake 15 minutes at 250°F; turn over using a silicone spatula and bake another 15 minutes.

Allow to cool thoroughly and store in air-tight containers in a cool place.

How about some flavoured popcorn.

Flavored popcorn is all the rage right now, and the top flavor believe it or not is Dill Pickle. It is actually an acquired taste and I for one don't mind it too much. Some other flavors are White Cheddar, Salt and Vinegar, BBQ, Sour Cream and Chives, plus a few others. Some popcorn machine rental businesses offer these in convenient single serving packs as an add on product. Usually a single pack is good for a large bucket, and would have enough seasoning for a few bags.

Kettle Popcorn in Nova Scotia

What is Kettle Corn popcorn. This is a treat that is produced in a huge kettle and the cooker adds salt and sugar to give it a unique taste. It is sold in large bags which is the only way to buy it so you can share it with your friends.

These items are also a great fund raising idea for an event or school function. The last time I had this was at the Bridgewater Exhibition (the Big EX).
